"Don't limit your search to just round trips, consider two separate one-ways," suggests Katy Nastro, a travel expert with Going. "American Airlines won’t sell you an itinerary with the departure flight on United Airlines, while the return leg is on American. But it may be the case that United has the cheapest outbound ticket, and American has the cheapest return ticket," Nastro tells FOX Business. "You can then save money by booking each flight separately, but taking the same intended trip just the same.
