Travellers heading between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island should pack plenty of patience as one vessel on the major Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay route is out of commission.

Nearly 15,000 people are viewing up to 80,000 pages in one hour, it said in a travel advisory on Friday.“We have staff monitoring the website performance and our booking system to ensure issues are caught and resolved as quickly as possible,” said B.C. Ferries.

Both days saw sold-out sailings on all routes between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island due to long weekend traffic and the loss of eight daily sailings on the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay route. In total, B.C. Ferries transported 11,623 passengers and 14,950 vehicles on these three routes on Friday.Article contentPassengers waiting to board a ferry at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal on July 1, 2023.Long lineups of vehicles have started forming again outside B.C.
