European summer getaways in the traditional July-August peak could become a thing of the past if the latest booking trends continue, with a travel company CEO revealing why Aussies are looking to alternate months to jet overseas.

CEO James Thornton said he was seeing an increase in European holiday bookings for the months of April, May and June, instead of the traditional July-August peak.

Mr Thornton speculated that families are weighing up whether or not they want to endure 45-degree temperatures in Europe during the day if they visit in July or August. Based in Melbourne, Intrepid Travel is one of the world's largest adventure travel companies offering a range of small-group adventures and tours.

The company offers either seven, 10 or 14-day itineraries, and services about 300,000 customers each year to 120 countries around the world. Asked why Aussies could be considering visits to Morocco, Jordan or Egypt, the Intrepid Travel chief said the destinations could be seen as more exotic or"off the beaten track".
