Everyone entering the UK will soon need to provide an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to do so.

Anyone entering the UK from overseas will soon need a new type of travel permit to be allowed to do so.

This is the UK's version of the ETIAS travel permit that will allow people into certain EU countries from 2024, reports Birmingham Live. "Those applying for an ETA will provide their biographic, biometric and contact details, and answer a short set of suitability questions. This will increase our knowledge about those seeking to come to the UK and prevent the arrival of those who present a threat."

Who will need an ETA permit? Overseas countries are being added to the scheme in stages. Once approved, travellers can use the ETA to enter the UK multiple times over two years.
