Thousands of people will be hitting roads today to travel for the weekend including to Blackpool Illuminations. Follow for live updates.

It's Friday and thousands of drivers are set to hit the roads across Lancashire today for the weekend getaway.

Traffic is already building on the M6 this morning with reports of an accident on the northbound carriageway. Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports the incident at J31 for the A59 Preston New Road and matrix signs are set to 60mph. There was an earlier incident on the M6 southbound in Cumbria between J36 for Kirkby Lonsdale and J35 for Carnforth. This has now cleared and traffic has returned to normal.
