Tenants at Skyline Chambers have been put up in hotels after being given the shock news

Manchester City Council has asked to be 'up to date' on works to make an apartment block safe after hundreds of residents were suddenly told to leave due to a 'severe hazard'.

A letter seen by the Manchester Evening News from Greater Manchester's chief fire officer Dave Russel revealed that a recent investigation had found the risk of 'fire spread' in the internal courtyard was 'very high', adding: "A recent fire risk appraisal of the external wall means the understanding of the fire risk has changed."

A meeting will be held with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, tenants and property managers at 6pm on Monday . Residents told the Manchester Evening News the notification came as a 'huge shock' and 'out of the blue'. A Manchester City Council spokesperson has now told the M.E.N “We have been made aware of the fire safety issues at Skyline Chambers, which we understand has meant residents have been supported into alternative accommodation.
