The Australian government has updated its travel advice for Lebanon as fears of a secondary conflict between Israel and Hezbollah grow and major protests take place in the capital.

Some demonstrators chanted “death to America” and “death to Israel” as they attempted to cross the barbed wire at the perimeter of the US embassy in the northern suburb of Awkar and were sprayed with water and tear gas by local authorities.

“Do not travel to Lebanon due to the volatile security situation and the risk of the security situation deteriorating further,” the “The Australian Government's ability to assist you to depart Lebanon will be very limited in a deteriorating security situation.” A Reuters journalist was killed and several others from AFP and Al Jazeera were injured during cross-border shelling, according to a report from France 24.and the country’s defence force on Monday announced an evacuation of residents living within two kilometres of the border.
