Former speaker of the House of Representatives Bronwyn Bishop says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese should travel to Tel Aviv to 'show leadership' after declaring earlier this week that Australia stands with Israel amid the current conflict.

His 16-part motion also included statements offering solidarity with the Jewish state, saying Australia"stands with Israel and recognises its inherent right to defend". Mr Albanese told parliament on Thursday the meeting will be focused on"building an alliance for the future", which will include talks about progressing the AUKUS pact.

Mr Dutton argued that visiting Israel should be the"priority" for any international travel at the moment for the Prime Minister.
