An intelligence driven operation in Khayelitsha policing precinct resulted in the arrest of a wanted suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police members attached to the Provincial Command Centre in Cape Town pursued information on Tuesday 24 October 2023, pertaining to firearms that were intended to be used during a gun salute at a memorial service. The team operationalised the information and proceeded to the identified address. Upon arrival at the identified address, they accosted a suspicious man carrying a bag. The members proceeded to search him and in the process confiscating a firearm with ammunition.
The members continued their search and found an additional three firearms, abandoned in close proximity of the identified premises where the memorial service was to be held. The firearms and ammunition was confiscated and handed in as exhibits.
