Wan Saiful Wan Jan says the corporation is gathering feedback and proposals from stakeholders for the education ministry to decide on.

PETALING JAYA: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation is not planning to reintroduce a travel ban on loan defaulters, its chairman, Wan Saiful Wan Jan, said.

He said PTPTN was gathering feedback from stakeholders on the issue of outstanding loans and a repayment mechanism.Their feedback will be included in a document which will be presented to the education ministry.“It is one of the many ideas from the ground because some believe that by removing the blacklist, we are rewarding defaulters,” he said when commenting on reports that the ban may be reintroduced.

Wan Saiful said the document to be submitted to the ministry would include all possibilities, from abolishing outstanding debts to even doing away with PTPTN. “There is also the idea to strengthen enforcement, including reintroducing the travel ban, but others think it should be abolished,” he said, adding that PTPTN didn’t want the travel blacklist to be reintroduced.

He said PTPTN would also propose to share its findings with the public first before presenting them to the education ministry for a decision.Subscribe to our newsletter and get news delivered to your mailbox.
