Tourism Minister Catherine Martin has been slammed for missing a key EU gathering of tourism ministers that signed a new green tourism declaration in Spain last week. The two day informal meeting of EU tourism ministers culminated with the signing of the new policy plan last Tuesday, October 31.
The event was hosted by Spain as they hold the Presidency of the European Council. A spokesman said: "The EU tourism ministers signed the Palma Declaration, in which they endorse the path towards social sustainability of the tourism sector in the European Union. "The Spanish Presidency raised the debate on how to improve coexistence between tourists and residents, and how to achieve a balance so that tourism has a beneficial impact."
