The trip from Southern Cross Station to Geelong could take just 32 minutes. VLine

Journey times for train passengers travelling between Melbourne and Geelong could be slashed in half through a federal government proposal to build a fast rail link between the cities.

The Prime Minster said the Geelong fast rail would also take pressure off the Princes Freeway and West Gate Bridge. He said the freeway normally sees more than 54,000 vehicles pass through each day. The pledge is part of the government's plan to "take the pressure off the big cities" and promote growth in the regions.

VLine Tell them they're lying.

VLine At least you all have a train.....still waiting

VLine If it involves sunshine/Wyndham vale then it’s unlikely to improve anything at all for Geelong passengers. And i’ve heard it before and it never happens.

VLine White elephant 🐘

VLine In Japan they have been doing that for over 40 years already!! 🤷‍♂️

VLine Being saying that for years. It's all bs

VLine Great idea!! Same for Bendigo & Ballarat one day I hope.

VLine But what happens during summer when speed restrictions are every afternoon?

VLine I would love to see every 12 months elections we would have had dozen more freeways airports bullet trains hundreds of schools hundreds of hospitals Political parties have lost the meaning of governing they remember it only at elections times

VLine In the 1950's it took an hour to get from Geelong to Melbourne, yet many moons later here we are still taking an hour to travel the distance. It would probably help if they stopped adding new stations to the line like tarneit and Wyndham Vale.

VLine But would they still arbitrarily cancel the 310 to get their bonuses?

VLine Should have been built 20 years ago along with Ballarat and Bendigo, wodonga and Morwell.... plan for the future not the next election!!

VLine Driving that trip in that time is also possible... Just is it viable? Cost benefit?

VLine It's 2019, an average speed of 160kph is not fast. Really they should be looking towards long term solutions like the Hyperloop.

VLine It's 23 degrees and too hot so we need to slow the train down so it won't break the tracks...

VLine Speed is not the main issue on the vline_Geelong line. Yeah its a nice to have, but what commuters actually want is frequent, reliable, not over crowded trains. Deliver that, then look at speed improvements.

VLine What would be an express trip if signals and tracks were improved with current rolling stock?

VLine Never gonna happen

VLine 10 years and 32 minutes
