With the total eclipse a little over two weeks away, counties and cities in the totality’s path are making sure all 9-1-1 calls will get answered.

Some school districts and universities in the San Antonio area are taking the day off next month for the final eclipse in the United States until 2044.

Fincke said emergency answering systems can only handle so many calls at once. That’s why many counties in totality’s path have backup plans to ensure everyone can get through to 9-1-1.“In addition to that, our EOC is capable of intake, and we’ll have people that are trained that can support the communications through there,” said Rodolfo Cardona, Emergency Management Coordinator for Eagle Pass.

Del Toro said on top of having additional staff, the Seguin Police Department will be answering overflow 9-1-1 calls for Kerr County.
