The scheme is used to help motorists who need to park closer to their destinations

If you have a physical disability, health condition, or hidden illness, you may be entitled to a Blue Badge - which helps motorists park closer to places they are going to.

A Blue Badge costs £10 in England or £20 in Scotland. It is free in Wales, and whichever country you apply from the badges usually last three years. A Blue Badge holder travelling either as a driver or a passenger can park for free in disabled parking bays and you may be exempt from other parking restrictions.

There is no set processing time for new applications or renewals, but it can take around 12 weeks. Your local council processes Blue Badge applications and sets the price - they will be able to advise how long it might take.
