Sta. Cruz Tourism and Information officer Julius Paner told Edge Davao on Friday that the Municipality of Sta. Cruz is now praying for the onset of the rainy season so that the ongoing closure of Mt. Apo will not be extended and for the local guides and porters not to suffer from lack of income.

The temporary closure also aims to protect the environment and prioritize the safety of visitors as El Niño continues to affect the trekking and camping sites within the MANP. According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources 11 , the purpose of this preventive step is to lessen the likelihood of grass fires and guarantee the health of the park’s various ecosystems.
