“Do not travel to Venezuela due to crime, civil unrest, poor health infrastructure, and arbitrary arrest and detention of U.S. citizens,' the U.S. State Department said.

American Airlines on Thursday indefinitely stopped its service to Venezuela while the South American country faces international sanctions, protests and embargoes.

The Miami Herald reported Thursday that American Airlines flights to Caracas, Venezuela, had already tapered down even before the travel advisory. The State Department first announced it would withdraw diplomats from Venezuela and suspend operations in its Caracas embassy on March 11. A travel advisory was issued the next day, though the department noted commercial flights were still avaliable.
