Major disruption is expected until 1pm today

British Transport Police said the incident happened in Hertfordshire just after 6am today, Wednesday, June 5. The incident is impacting train services, including the Avanti West Coast service between Liverpool Lime Street and London Euston.

A spokesperson for Network Rail at Liverpool Lime Street said at around 7am today: "Due to an emergency incident there are no mainline services between Lime Street and Euston this morning Ticket acceptance and travel advice is on @nationalrailenq site. In a recent update, National Rail said emergency services have now safely completed their work between Watford Junction and Bushey, and all lines have reopened. It added while service recovers, trains running between these stations may still be "severely delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised". It added major disruption is expected until 1pm today. This also includes the Avanti West Coast Blackpool North, Edinburgh, Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston.

National Rail also issued customer advice for the Avanti West Coast. It said passengers can use their ticket on the following services at no extra cost:
