The WC tourism sector continues to grow as more visitors are flocking to this province. Along with that, come economic benefits and more job opportunities.The Western Cape Government reported that visitors to WC tourist attractions are topping 3.2 million. Provincial Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, Mireille Wenger, highlighted ain the number of visitors to 53 participating tourist attractions across the province. This was in comparison to the same period last year.
showed an upward trend, with a 13% year-on-year increase between January and April this year. This is another positive sign for WC tourism. During this period, 91% of the total air arrivals to Cape Town were from international markets. It included 9% from the rest of Africa.During the period mentioned above, the majority of international visitors were from the United Kingdom.
The majority of visitors from the African continent were from Namibia, followed by Zimbabwe, Angola, Kenya, and Mozambique.Wenger stated that, together with Wesgro and other partners across the sector, the government is set on improving WC tourism even more. “We have just opened applications for the Province’s 2024 Tourism Growth Fund, which will provide project funding to qualifying organisations for tourism development, tourism infrastructure, and tourism product development.”will assist businesses to expand their offerings and develop WC tourism infrastructure, which will subsequently lead to an increase in the number of visitors to the Western Cape.
