Blasts target three churches and three luxury hotels

Sri Lankan security personnel keep watch outside the church premises following a blast at the St. Anthony's Shrine in Kochchikade in Colombo on April 21, 2019.At least 138 people were killed and hundreds more injured in near simultaneous blasts that rocked three churches and three luxury hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, a security official said, in the worst spout of violence in the South Asian country since its civil war ended a decade ago.

The magnitude of the bloodshed recalled Sri Lanka’s decades-long civil war, when separatist Tamil Tigers and other rebel groups targeted the Central Bank, a shopping mall, a Buddhist temple and hotels popular with tourists.Sri Lanka has long faced a bitter ethnic divide between the majority Sinhalese and the minority Tamils, fueling the civil war as Tamil militants tried to carve out their own homeland.

Alex Agieleson, who was near the shrine, said buildings shook with the blast, and that a number of injured people were carried away in ambulances. The explosion ripped off the roof and knocked out doors and windows at St. Sebastian’s, where people carried the wounded away from blood-stained pews, TV footage showed.Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe convened Sri Lanka’s top military officials at an emergency meeting of the National Security Council following the blasts. Wickremesinghe tweeted that “the government is taking immediate steps to contain the situation.

Tell me again how white nationalists are our biggest terror threat. Tell me again how more gun control can prevent or reduce terrorism. Tell me again why people shouldn’t be afraid of islamists (islamophobia).

Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the blasts “an assault on all of humanity,” while Russian President Vladimir Putin denounced them as “cruel and cynical.” Really? The first quotes are given 2 these two barking dogs, these two thugs? Something smells fishy here. SriLankaTerrorAttack

So Sad in such a special day of year. My prayers are with all there. Are people going to go to churches and place flowers outside? Are they going to wear a cross in 'solidarity?' What about the show of support and condemnation for the 300 Christians killed in Nigeria this year, just for being Christian? 165 now.
