People planning to visit Turkey have been told to 'be extra vigilant'

The UK Foreign Office has changed its guidance for people travelling to Turkey after more than 40 reports of sexual assaults, including rape, in the European country.

The government department frequently its advice in a bid to keep people safe when travelling abroad and on Monday, June 24, a new alert was issued for anyone visiting Turkey. Many people from the UK take holidays in the country, visiting destinations such as Dalaman and Antalya. A Foreign Office update reads: "In 2023, 42 cases of sexual assault, including rape, were reported to British consular staff in Turkey. "Crimes were committed at night by someone the victim met during the day, including hotel and spa workers. There have also been sexual attacks on minors visiting toilet facilities alone.UK travellers visiting Turkey are also advised to "stay aware of your surroundings at all times, keep up to date with local media reports, and follow the advice of local authorities" while in the country.
