Water safety officials say 11 people in the country die each day from drowning. They say 80% of those deaths are caused by rip currents, which are deadly channels that pull water away from the shore. In just four days, seven people died from rip currents at Florida beaches. According to Price, if you think you’re caught in a rip current, try to float on top of the water or swim parallel to the shore and not against the tide.
