Rival buys all 555 Thomas Cook stores

All 555 Thomas Cook stores are to be bought by rival Hays Travel in a move that could save up to 2,500 jobs.

The independent travel agent is buying the stores from the Official Receiver which was called in when Thomas Cook collapsed last month. Hays has already recruited 421 former Thomas Cook staff and the deal is expected to save thousands more jobs. The Official Receiver described the sale as an"important step" of the 178-year-old chain's future.

So pleased for Thomas Cook staff

They’ll buy them, keep half themselves then sell the other half off at double the price, giving them free shops

Wonderful news . Good luck to hays and all its new staff .

How can they be a rival if the other business doesn’t exist?

That is really good news. So happy for the staff.

Good luck to them. Hope the public support them and use their services. 👍

Do they have any link to Angela Loathsome ?

Great news 😬

A friend of the Tories?

Hays will be bankrupt in 5 years then. They have no way enough clout to buy that many stores.

Seems like a crazy idea to me in a business sense but hope it all pans out well for Hays Travel

I think the trend is more towards online bookings, but I hope this works out👍🏻

Hope this works and Hays have thought this through. We haves used Hays Travel for many years as they are small and give great service. Hope that doesn’t change..

This will only be keep the best dump the rest as far as the properties, most likely get decent rates from the landlords for a while, some money better than no money. How many jobs will be transferred? Likely a lot less than 2500

Good news that no empty shop units in the High Street and fewer people out of work. But who actually goes into Travel Agencies nowadays to book a holiday or even say a flight on its own?

Hardly a ‘rival’ when Thomas Cook has collapsed 🤷🏼‍♀️

Might as well be buying Betamax players. Booking holidays on the high street is dead.

what a great business plan

are they fucking mad?!
