Australia is still open to visitors, despite bushfires, tourism bosses say

Australia amid ongoing bushfires and the United States upgrades its travel advisory level, Tourism and Transport Forum CEO Margy Osmond says the country is well and truly still open.

Ms Osmond told SBS News travel warnings were important to advice international visitors, but tourists should not avoid the nation. Tourists snap a photo of a smoke-filled Sydney Harbour. Tourists are staying away due to the bushfires."It is important also to speak with their accommodation providers to understand what is happening in the region they are intending to visit and if the area has been affected," she said. "Whilst we have some of our most beautiful areas impacted by the bushfires, there are many others that are not, and they are ready and waiting to meet you.

Better they go somewhere else as its not healthy for them to be here.

Why would anyone in their right mind come to Australia for a holiday when the country is burning to he ground and the air quality is the worst in the world and it is run by a racist government

Come and be ready to flee.

300km from the nearest fire, I had to wear P2 masks because I was struggling to breathe due to the smoke. My eyes stung, I couldn’t stop coughing, no way to get away from it. That didn’t happen even with Black Saturday fires burning on my doorstep for a month. Don’t come here.

We wish !!

Yeah, good luck with that. We are on travel warning lists.

Uluru looks fire free... but hot

Unfortunately the Koalas are mostly dead, killed in the fires. We in Australia have to get our act together if we want to attract tourists now.

Greed and govt mismanagement and incompetency has cost Australia 100s of billions... Generation of wildlife and ecosystems.... Those who sign of on failed legislation should be held accountable.... Otherwise governments self-preservation equals corruption!!!

What policy changes will be made to protect future tourists (and residents) from the dangers of BushFireCrisisAustralia. Families do NOT want to holiday where there is a potential risk of harm / trauma / fire / hazardous smoke auspol AustralianBushfireDisaster

Much of Australia is cool and damp - hopefully the rain band will reach NSW. Peddling an National-Apocalypse! message, is beyond irresponsible.

Ridiculous. -E

Just be sure to bring your own supply of P2 masks, extra supply of Ventolin if prescribed.

Roll you own holiday

Oh you mean like Kangaroo Island

Yeah but let's face it... an influx of tourists to the south or east is not really something we are ready for at this stage.

1.25+ billion less animals to see

It’s hard to be on board with tourism industry when they’re being ghouls.
