Acting Immigration Minister Alan Tudge says there are no plans to grant temporary visa holders a blanket exemption to Australia's coronavirus travel ban, despite pleas from those stranded overseas to be allowed back into the country.
Visa holders caught out by the travel ban have told SBS News that despite calling Australia home for several years before the pandemic took hold, their applications on compassionate grounds have still been denied. A petition signed by more than 12,000 people has also been tabled in federal parliament calling for visa holders to be allowed to return to their homes, families and jobs in Australia.
Lucy Crisp and her partner Michael Flaherty are among those who have been unable to return to Australia since the pandemic took hold.
Let them have their life back! They have their family .Those people should remember this kind of treat so whenever they find adv about. working or study in Australia bla3x, they cam turn them to shit
Absolutely right decision. Without putting any color or race in this conversation, this is the right approach. Next step after that is employment opportunities be extended to citizens and PR before we open the borders for Temps. Way to go Minister!
They should wait for the vaccine before letting in anybody
More like desperate to get back so they can send all wages back home whilst stopping citizens here getting work.
How can you be stranded in your own country? Nice try SBS twisting words around, up to you fellows it'll be an open boarder no check point policy.
There are no jobs for them to return to. Australians must come first as the economy and jobs grow.
err why are they saying this is their home if they're temporary visa holders? Also nice job showing us a cherry picked selection of white females when we all know the vast majority are horrendously ugly male Indians.
