‘It has been tough’: Australian man stranded in India for months by coronavirus restrictions

There is nothing he can do but wait for the next round of flights, but he said every day is becoming harder as he waits to learn what his fate will be."I am not sure what's going to happen, it is just a waiting game, hoping to hear back from the Australian High Commission about when a new flight's going to be organised."

Australian Vishal Pandey has been stranded in India for two months since coronavirus travel restrictions were imposed.The Qantas Boeing 787 bringing 207 Australians to Canberra today is one of four flights facilitated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as a way to repatriate people from India over the next few days.

The flight arriving in Canberra is the first commercial non-stop flight between New Delhi and the nation's capital. ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said yesterday the passengers had been screened for COVID-19 symptoms before departing New Delhi, and would be screened again upon arrival.They will be escorted to two hotels where they will stay for 14 days of quarantine, it was also confirmed.Ms Stephen-Smith said the ACT Government would be providing ongoing support to the individuals throughout their quarantine period.

"Whether they be signs of a COVID-19 infection, other physical health issues or mental health issues that may be emerging."
