A design that reconfigures airplane cabins with double-decker lie-flat seats in premium economy is being touted as a possible solution for fliers looking for more protection from the spread of Covid-19.
O'Neill was inspired by a sleepless flight between New York to Singapore a few years ago, on board what wasSeated in premium economy,O'Neill realized halfway through the super long-haul journey that he wasn't going to get any shut eye. Zephyr's double-decker concept utilizes the space that exists between a standard seat and an overhead bin.
The idea's still in its infancy, although O'Neill says he's identified an engineering partner -- and he's been in conversation with four major airlines, including US carrier Delta, although there are no firm commitments right now.

Just issue a new disposable masks and tubing to passengers to plug into air outlets above the seats like current masks do. Easy Peasy. Trash receptacles on site for deplaning passengers to toss used masks into.

FFS. It JUST doesn't work that way. What? Covid-19 is scared of bunk beds? Scared so hard it just dies or petrifies and doesn't get swept into the massive recirculating air system of an airplane? Who thinks of these things? 12 year olds? And who approves these ideas? 6 year olds?
The laying down part looks great if you're under 6ft and 160 lbs. The sitting part I can't even visualize. The 'cushions' are like 8 inches off the ground. At that point you may as well just give us all bunks like a submarine.
