They were located on Granville Street having a family vacation on Aug. 29.

They were given tickets under the Quarantine Act and taken to the Peace Arch border to return to the U.S., according to Shawn Robins, director of communications for Emergency Management B.C.

U.S. citizens are allowed to travel in Canada to access Alaska but they must take a direct route and only stop for essentials. They are also restricted to crossing at one of five CBSA border entries: Abbotsford-Huntingdon, Osoyoos and Kingsgate in B.C.; Coutts in Alberta; and North Portal in Saskatchewan.

RCMP spokesperson Dawn Roberts says four Americans were fined $500 each for violating emergency orders under the Quarantine Act. She said the CBSA does not have any statistics specific to foreign nationals transiting through Canada to Alaska.Article content continued
