Several senior Government sources have indicated that a VAT cut for the tourism sector is now likely, with the 13.5% rate applying to the sector expected to be reduced to 9%, as was done in the last recession.

The tax reduction would benefit the hard-hit restaurant, hotel and hospitality sectors, and has been one of the key demands from the industry.

Also in Tuesday's budget, there will be an increase of 15,000 retraining places in further and higher education, particularly targeted at young people. There will be also a focus on helping the self-employed. The package will also contain a significant live music and entertainment package in the range of tens of millions of euro.

As long as they pass it on to the customers. But as with the last vat cut they won’t 🤦🏻‍♂️

I fuckin hate that word “recession” I was born in one in another at 22 . And now we’re in another one. 3 recessions at 34 🖕🏻

No imagination...

Got to be able to eat out first.

Honestly...no pubs/restaurants can admit clients, no one can travel. The most utterly pathetic introduction..... A school kid would spot the idiocy in this.

9% vat is no good If you won’t allow them to open

Hahaha, they’ve decimated the tourism and hospitality sector. A vat reduction on nothing means nothing.

And what good will that do? The difference on a 10 euro item is less than 40c...in the current climate that's hardly the difference between opening and closing...ludicrous

Horse and bolted spring to mind

What tourism industry? You conspired in the destruction oc the country, by the way.

What tourism sector, everything is closed & Gardai are spending millions on pointless checkpoints to encourage people not to leave their county, even though its unenforceable. Govt asleep at the wheel again!

Why only the hospitality sector Paschald ? If VAT hampers growth even slightly lets reduce it across the board and see what happens. VAT receipts down. Corporate, USC, PRSI and PAYE up.

Your photo is descriptive....There are no tourists....

Not much use when the doors are closed 🤨

But aren't government and nphet asking us to reduce our contacts CMOIreland

As it should when people can't travel. I can tell you theres feck all to see in carlow. Upon arrival to our town there is a row of boarded up houses.

Too little too late.

What sector when there's nothing open or nobody can travel
