Victoria's health department confirmed there were 17 travellers from New Zealand. Under the one-way travel bubble, New Zealanders can only visit New South Wales and the Northern Territory – but the group managed to catch a connecting flight to Melbourne after arriving in Sydney. They have reportedly been detained at the airport.
The Department of Health and Human Services released a statement on their arrival. "Victoria has not agreed to a travel bubble arrangement with New Zealand and did not expect to receive international travellers as a result of NSW making that arrangement," it said. "The Victorian Government has made it clear to the Commonwealth that we expect NZ passengers who have not undertaken quarantine will not be permitted to board flights in Sydney bound for Melbourne.
Who cares. It doesn’t sound like they did anything wrong or illegal. If the system failed blame the system not the kiwi travelers. Good luck to them 👍🏼
