Some businesses welcomed the incentive, saying they hope it can help those hit hardest during COVID-19 restrictions.

Barry Choi, pictured here with his daughter Scarlett and wife Carla Salvosa, says the new tax credit comes too late for him and his family because they finished their Ontario travel in 2021 and will go abroad in 2022.

"Everybody suffered," said Renda Abdo, owner of the Lakeside Motel in Prince Edward County, about 200 kilometres northeast of Toronto. "People are still very unsure about travelling on planes and too far away from home, so I think it's perfect timing." "The recent [Omicron] variant, the virus, things like that remind us it's nice we can travel locally, travel around our province," he said"They should have introduced it way long ago," said Barry Choi, creator of Moneywehave.com, a personal finance and budget travel blog. "[Businesses] could have used those dollars in 2021 when things were really hurting."

More recently, to prevent travel-related infections amid mounting case counts and spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus, the federal government has been advising Canadians to avoid all non-essential international travel. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business says it supports Ontario's 2022 travel tax credit.

Well spend 2000$ on acco and get $400. Not quite a deal. When on travel that $400 would have been spent in meals and other expenses. So real perk is if taxable income goes down and not mere $400

This is actually starting to look appealing. How sad is that?

It took long enough.

Good idea. Why this idea not sooner? Likely because some group in Tourism Sector would have complain about Gov't Tax Credit!! Now Tourism Sector needs to make money so its OK. Better late than never. I hope other Provinces allow same thing during Covid-19 Pandemic!

sweet offer right ahead of further lockdowns, lol. 😂

soft psychological lock-down...

Ford and another money grab ! Forget it

Ontario will refund you up to $200 to travel the province. Will it be enough to help rebuild a battered tourism industry? The new tax credit kicks in Jan. 1, with a maximum credit of $200 to individuals and $400 to families in an effort to stimulate the province’s devastated tourism sector. And while proponents say it’s a step in the right direction, critics say it won’t cut it. Amazing! Incredible! A reel champyen my freinds ! 🤡 Only those with disposable income can take advantage of this tax credit! Not the majority of those who are the WorkingPoor! fordnation continues to throw Ontario's tax$$$ out the door with no evidence that this will have a multiplier effect on the economy! Don't tax credits favour those who have a higher income? Ya gotta have cash to spend cash. So, another goodies for the well off...thanks Doug.
