Got unused AirAsia X credits? AirAsia X is converting them to travel vouchers with 5-year validity. Here's what you can and can't do with the voucher.

in the coming months. According to the medium to long-haul airline under Capital A, the move to convert credits to vouchers will allow for business efficacy and at the same time, provide travel benefits to their guests as it comes with a validity of 5 years from the date of issuance. If you have any unused credit that was issued by AirAsia X even before the debt restructuring process, your credits will be converted to vouchers.

Before the travel voucher conversion exercise, passengers could utilise the credit for any AirAsia bookings including domestic flights and you can even use the credit to purchase add-ons including luggage, meals, and preferred seating. Once it is converted to vouchers, you can only utilise it for AirAsia X flights.AirAsia X has begun issuing travel vouchers to its affected customers via direct email.

If the voucher value is below your total ticket price, you will have to pay the price difference using your preferred payment method including credit card or online banking. However, if your voucher value is higher than the booking, the extra value will be retained in your account. Similar to a gift card, you can reuse the same voucher code to utilise the remaining voucher amount for your next booking.

While the 5-year validity is good news, the voucher comes with its own restrictions. As mentioned earlier, it can only be utilised for AirAsia X flights which currently only fly a handful of destinations such as Sydney, New Delhi and Seoul. You can’t use it on other AirAsia affiliate flights with the flight code AK, Z2, QZ, FD, I5 or XJ.

Fortunately, there are no blackout dates for the AirAsia X voucher so you can utilise it during peak season and weekend holidays. However, the T&C states that the voucher is only applicable for theof the flight. You can’t use the voucher to pay for airport taxes, fees, insurance surcharge, and even add-ons such as baggage, seats, meals and other extra costs.Besides the outstanding credit, AirAsia X will also refund the RM499 unlimited pass as vouchers.
