A team of Newfoundland and Labrador boxers are taking on competition in Sarnia, Ont. STOCK PHOTO.ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A team of Newfoundland and Labrador boxers — four each from two clubs in the St. John’s metro area — will be in the ring in Sarnia, Ont., this weekend.

Normally, boxers from this province make a summer trip to Ontario to compete in the annual Brampton Cup. However, circumstances meant they couldn’t enter that July event this year. In stepped Tom Hennessey, a boxing club owner and coach in Sarnia who is also a native of Bishops Falls. Hennessey arranged for the substitute competition, which will see the eight Newfoundlanders taking on boxers from the Sarnia area.

Athletes Tommy Hann, Jasper Baillie, Noah Summers, and Eason Strickland from the TRC Club, along with Landon Rideout, Jacob Dawe, Daniel Gosine and Mike Gosine of the Conception Bay South Boxing Club, travelled to Sarnia Thursday along with coaches Hank Summers and Blair Tobin from TRC and Todd Rideout from the C.B.S. club.
