Via Rail's president and CEO has released a statement apologizing for cancellations, delays and stranded trains around Christmas in southern Ontario and Quebec.

Posted: Jan 10, 2023 1:12 PM ET | Last Updated: 1 hour ago

A storm hit Dec. 23, then a CN train derailment on Dec. 24 near Grafton, Ont., shut down a stretch of track that left passengers trapped aboard trains for hours. "We appreciate that passengers were looking forward to holiday celebrations and family get-togethers, and we regret that for many, those plans were disrupted. We didn't meet your expectations and for that we apologize," the statement said.

Passengers whose trains were "completely immobilized" are getting travel credits, Via Rail said Tuesday. It was already announcedfor passengers whose trains were cancelled between Dec. 24 and 26.

It’s time to invest in high speed rail all across North America

Probably because the Minister of Transportation forced him.

Did he apologize for the tree falling on the train? Did he apologize for the terrible weather? If not his words are meaningless.

LOL That was timely!

There were a few factors involved here, train derailment really bad snow storm and if i remember correctly trees falling on tracks and trains. So yes it was a big mess, and compensation is in order, however cleaning train tracks for passenger security is a big thing. just saying

Pitiful, seriously.

Apologies = just words. Where's the... compensation ?

Well that was prompt. Only 2 weeks late!

Judges, lawyers and cops are proof that there is no rule of law in Canada. They do things that would put normal people in jail or have consequences. Local media has ignored this problem ruthlessly and helped these bad actors stay hidden. For example:

'Canadians deserve better': MPs launch special study into passenger treatment amid holiday travel chaosThe House of Commons committee that handles transportation issues has agreed to launch a special study into the treatment of air and rail passengers this holiday season and will be calling on officials from the major airlines and Via Rail, as well as Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, to testify. We do, but air travel is small potatoes compared to soaring grocery and housing prices. This is a distraction from the real issues. Seriously do we really need another study? Fire the Minister who's been at the helm of the travel disaster for 2+ years already. Omar needs to go. Is there no accountability in the TRUDEAU regime? No, they don't. They're getting the government they voted for and deserve.
