Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and police must investigate the alleged “corruption culture” as exposed by a Federal Minister.

“But the investigations must be transparent. If you have to charge anybody, charge whether he is a Minister or a high-ranking or low-ranking immigration officer. Do it,” he said.He was asked to comment on Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing who caused a commotion at the KLIA arrival hall on June 30. Abdul Karim said political parties should stay out of it.

He claimed there were Immigration officers who allegedly demanded between RM3,000 and RM12,000 to free tourists from detention and that this was a longstanding issue. Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah On tourism, Abdul Karim said Sarawak’s tourism is returning to its pre-Covid-19 glory days with arrivals for the first five months already surpassing projections and may very well hit the three million mark by September.
