Anthony Albanese grilled by media in China on packed overseas schedule as he stresses importance of improved diplomatic ties on Australia's cost of living crisis
The PM’s visit to the People’s Republic marks the first by an Australian leader in seven years signifies a significant improvement in ties between the two countries following a years-long stalemate. Incessant cash rate rises by the Reserve Bank over the past year to combat higher-than-forecast inflation have monumentally pushed up living costs for Australians, with yet another interest rate hike anticipated on Tuesday after the RBA holds its monthly meeting.
“What I say is that quite clearly, yesterday I was with 250 Australian businesses - that’s about Australian jobs, that has an impact on our economy, that has an impact on inflation, that has an impact on how successful we are,” Mr Albanese said.
