British holidaymakers planning a half term getaway to the Balearic Islands could face disruption due to planned anti-tourism protests in two popular destinations.
The group claims the island "cannot take anymore" and aims to highlight the "negative impacts of uncontrolled tourism". On May 25, which aligns with the start of many UK schools' May half term, protestors are expected to hit the streets in Palma, the capital of Majorca. The organisers stated: "On the 25th of May we have to take to the streets.
It further adds: "While most demonstrations are peaceful, there is a risk of unrest or violence. If you're near areas where demonstrations are taking place, be aware of what is happening around you and move away if there are signs of disorder." Protesters brandished signs proclaiming 'Canaries have a limit'. Participants clarified that their gripe isn't with tourism or tourists per se, but rather they're pushing for tourism to be managed sustainably.
