Governor Cox's Office issued two statements on Friday in response to a 2News exclusive about Denver paying for roughly 2,000 migrants to travel from the Mile High City to Utah, over just more than an 18-month period — and his latest called for an end to the program.
"Since learning of Denver's policy, we've worked with Salt Lake County and Salt Lake City to push back on the Department of Homeland Security, the city of Denver, the state of Colorado and the Biden administration demanding they immediately stop this practice," said Cox's senior advisor Jennifer Napier-Pearce.
The Governor's Office said it was told by Denver a month ago that the city was sending "illegal immigrants from Denver to locations across the country, including Salt Lake City."'No space' in Utah, as Denver pays for migrants to relocate here Salt Lake Police said 15 migrants traveled here over Memorial Day weekend with virtually no clue on what to do upon their arrival."Mayor Mendenhall is aware of migrants arriving from Denver and has spoken with Mayor Johnston in the past month," it read. "Our office is regularly briefed from federal and local agencies.
