At least 207 people were killed and hundreds more injured in eight blasts that rocked churches and hotels in and just outside Sri Lanka's capital on Easter Sunday.

A Sri Lankan Police officer inspects a blast spot at the Shangri-la hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Sunday, April 21, 2019. Published Sunday, April 21, 2019 4:01AM EDTCOLOMBO, Sri Lanka -- At least 207 people were killed and hundreds more injured in eight blasts that rocked churches and hotels in and just outside Sri Lanka's capital on Easter Sunday, officials said, pitching the South Asian island nation into the worst chaos it has seen since a bloody civil war ended a decade ago.

Wickremesinghe said his government would "vest all necessary powers with the defence forces" to take action against those responsible" for Sunday's attacks, "regardless of their stature." Shops were closed and streets deserted in Colombo even before the government imposed a nationwide curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.Two of the blasts were suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers, a senior official told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with reporters. Worshippers and hotel guests were among the dead, the official said.

"I entrust to the Lord all those who were tragically killed and pray for the injured and all those who are suffering as a result of this dramatic event," the pope added. The Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, called on Sri Lanka's government to launch a "very impartial strong inquiry" and to punish those found responsible "mercilessly because only animals can behave like that."

British Prime Minister Teresa May said on Twitter, "We must stand together to make sure that no one should ever have to their faith in fear."

Plain cowardice to be targeting helpless, unsuspecting & innocent worshipers. What kind of movement gets traction from inhuman action? This should be condemned by folks of every religious background. This is murder. SriLankaExplosions

They were suicide bombers attacking Christian churches but ok

Why they dont say in a church?

Why is the fact that these were Christians who were targeted and murdered not in your headline? Really disappointing and frankly disgusting how many news outlets are leaving out that simple and important fact. 💔 ✝️

Real headline.... Islamist terrorists kill 190 with bombs set off in churches on Easter Sunday. Or is it only a terror attack in the rare instance that is a Christian?

Religion of peace sure blows up and kills a lot of people.......

christianaphobia

At least eight blasts were reported 3 churches plus 4 hotels targeted THIS is NOT an Explosion

Afraid of the word terrorism?

Explosions kill at least 138 in Sri Lanka on Easter SundayBlasts target three churches and three luxury hotels Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the blasts “an assault on all of humanity,” while Russian President Vladimir Putin denounced them as “cruel and cynical.” Really? The first quotes are given 2 these two barking dogs, these two thugs? Something smells fishy here. SriLankaTerrorAttack Tell me again how white nationalists are our biggest terror threat. Tell me again how more gun control can prevent or reduce terrorism. Tell me again why people shouldn’t be afraid of islamists (islamophobia).

Explosions kill at least 138 in Sri Lanka on Easter SundayAt least 129 people were killed and nearly 500 hospitalized from injuries in near simultaneous blasts that rocked three churches and three hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, the state-run Daily News reported. So Sad in such a special day of year. My prayers are with all there. Are people going to go to churches and place flowers outside? Are they going to wear a cross in 'solidarity?' What about the show of support and condemnation for the 300 Christians killed in Nigeria this year, just for being Christian? 165 now.
