JON JOHNSON It was pay day for the participants in the Dothan Diamond Classic, the annual high school softball tournament which held its fifth tournament last month.
The eight teams which were eliminated after one game of bracket play – Brantley, Cottonwood, Dale County, Geneva County, Headland, Houston County, Northside Methodist Academy and Providence Christian – each received $937.50. Those making it to the semifinals and championship round – Wicksburg, Enterprise, Houston Academy and Rehobeth – each received checks of $3,750.
Kenny Thompson of the Dothan Department of Leisure Services, along with Rhonda Kirk, formerly of DLS, spearheaded beginning the tournament. Thompson was on hand to distribute the checks to coaches and representatives of the schools.
